Ecotherapy

In the course of human evolution, only 0.003% of our time has been spent in agricultural, sheltered societies. Today’s world is hectic, urban, and technological, while our bodies, minds, and souls still crave the peacefulness, wildness, and beauty of nature. This disconnection has an indisputable toll on personal and societal health. Chronic health issues such as cancer, depression, anxiety, and diabetes can be directly attributed to the unnatural habits our society has adopted, including over-prescribed pharmaceuticals, pesticide/herbicide/fungicide agricultural applications, processed foods, and excessive use of technology. Phenomena such as water and air pollution, unnatural forest fires, global warming, increasingly damaging hurricanes/tsunamis, and animal extinctions affect us on every energetic level. Planet Earth is a living, breathing entity. As a part of her, we are holding the trauma of her pain within each of our cells — and it is making us sick.

Ecotherapy is a non-clinical alternative to traditional psychotherapy or counseling. Said simply, Ecotherapy is the process of healing ourselves by healing our connection with nature. By assessing our life patterns or issues in the context of our intimate relationship to the natural world, we can gain powerful insights into the roots of our patterns and dis-eases. This awareness allows for the process of holistic healing through making necessary lifestyle changes, and becoming better stewards of beautiful planet Earth.

Ecotherapy sessions take many forms, and can be done both indoors and outdoors depending on the weather/the client’s preferences. Remote sessions are also possible. Meditations, intentional hikes, visualization exercises, questionnaires, somatic methods, creative expression, card readings, and nature-based energy healing practices can all be part of the process. Of course, the more we can get outdoors, the better; and I will provide practices for clients to take home as part of their “prescribed” healing methods.

Ecotherapy is not only beneficial for the client, but for the planet as a whole. This discipline is deeply rooted in environmental activism and deep ecology. Therefore, practices such as nature blessings, asking the land for permission, acknowledging indigenous populations, and thanking the earth for her nourishment are intertwined in the healing process.

You will leave each session with a deeper understanding of how your life is a mirror of the outside world; and how you can reduce physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual discomforts through quality time with nature, appreciation for food, land, and water, connecting with both wild and domestic animals, and much more.
