It’s no secret that our moods are affected by the seasons. If you are someone who struggles with chronic depression to begin with, winter weather can make life even more difficult. The inability to bask in the sunshine and get sufficient vitamin D; the extra energy it takes to get out of the house; all of these factors contribute to what is commonly referred to as Seasonal Affective Disorder (“SAD”).
Winter weather causes us to go inside, not only physically, but mentally & emotionally. When we lack the ability to augment our inner world with external play or socializing, or when we lack the motivation to do much of anything, something scary happens: we have to be with our Self.
Being with our Self is difficult because underneath the surface of our activities, social life, work, and purposefulness, there can be unprocessed feelings lurking of emptiness, loneliness, despair, or even existential terror!
If you are struggling to feel at peace this winter season (or anytime), there is hope.
I used to cycle into suicidal urges on a biweekly basis, unable to withstand the internal storm that was constantly brewing in my body and mind. Life on the surface was fine, but underneath I was so emotionally uncomfortable I thought the only way out was to die.
Every time I touched that edge between life and death, I came into contact with something deep and real. I discovered how precious life is; and how real my pain was. By courageously going inward, I was able to contact un-touched, un-seen, un-heard parts of my Self who were crying out for attention. I was able to give myself the love, compassion and belonging I needed to feel at peace inside.
But I could not have done this alone. I had amazing support along the way, from practitioners and teachers who helped guide me through my darkness, so I could experience the Light.
If you are ready to discover your Light within, and feel the confidence, inner peace, and joy that you deserve, I invite you to sign up for a free consultation. In this call, I’ll listen to your struggles and your dreams, and share with you a customized plan for how we can move you from feeling consistent inner anguish to a state of inner peace.
Don’t let the darkness fool you; you are stronger, wiser, more capable than you realize. Sometimes it just takes some outside support to help you see and feel the Light.
