It is important to understand that our patterns of depression and anxiety result from a continuous shutting down of our energy field. Those of us with chronic depression and anxiety stop the natural energy flow within our bodies. We do this because we don’t know another way. Why?
Patterns of shutting down occur because over time, we learned that having all of our energy and being ourselves was not a “socially acceptable” behavior. We are conditioned to behave and be only within one box: an impossible box for everyone, maybe anyone, to fit in comfortably.
To survive, we learned how to feel at least okay in the box. Or perhaps not to feel anything at all, which may be preferable in some situations. To accomplish this, we had to shut ourselves off from our feelings of discomfort. We had to shut off our own energy flow.
As we mature as human beings, the necessity to be ourself becomes stronger and stronger, until we are virtually bursting from the inside out. Ahhh!
That’s our vital life force, our energy, our emotions, trying to come through.
And what do we do?
We stop it.
We shut down.
Unconsciously, unknowingly, for the most part – without awareness of what’s going on. Years of repressed emotions eventually must break through our inner walls. An over-pressured dam will eventually burst. But if we never learned how to be in deep contact with our body, or move that energy, or safely express those emotions, well…
The energy gets stuck.
This energetic and emotional back-up causes us to feel a severe heaviness that stops us from being able to do much of anything (ahem, depression). And it also causes anxiety because all of that energy is building, building, building, trying to get out. Our fight or flight system kicks in. “I’m in danger of being destroyed by an unknown, unrelenting force from within myself!”
But it’s not unknown. It’s your energy. It’s your emotions.
And it’s your responsibility to finally let them come through those walls.
But not all at once. To be safe and easeful, this must be a gentle, gradual process.
It requires strengthening your nervous system.
It requires understanding the nature of our emotions, and their purpose in your life.
It requires developing a deep, loving relationship with your Self and your body.
It requires having the inner resources and outer support to move through your process.
Unlocking our energy and emotions can actually be a very enjoyable, loving, and enlightening process. This is the natural path to healing depression and anxiety. No pills necessary. And a wealth of inner resources, spiritual awakening and self-love to boot.
