Human Im/Mortality

Unlimited life force energy, limited time: this is the mortal dilemma. Human beings are meant to be pure conduits of prana. Our energy-consciousness system, the aura or bioenergetic field, is a divinely designed instrument for physical, emotional, mental and spiritual experience. In an imbalanced state, we may feel lethargic and lack energy, feeling disappointed that we cannot achieve everything we want in any given day. Even at our best with unlimited energy, we could not accomplish every possible thing, because we live in a time-bound dimension. We have set limits to work within. I believe, however, that we are essentially perpetual motion machines; besides, we are always moving on some level; even in sleep our brains are awake, our body breathing. What about death? You may ask. Enlightened sages and yogis who have mastered the teachings of pranayama (life force control) would say there is none, regardless of this body withering away. Indeed, the Soul goes on, and on, with or without our conscious attention. There is, however, a sort of immortality that can be tapped into in this life, an energy that seems to come from outside us rather than within (though this difference fades away with self-realization), directing our movements and decisions like a graceful helping hand. That, my friends, is none other than G-O-D. If we let that unlimited source of energy into our hearts, then yes, we have certainly overcome the puzzle of mortality, for what Little Death could take the bliss of Re-union away from our innocent Souls?

I can hear a buzzing of life-force energy around me. It increases in certain areas of the house, like my room, which apparently is becoming a sort of force field. Perhaps it’s the kundalini yoga, or the images of beloved saints on my wall, or the tarot card and crystal grids sending powerful intentions into the ether. When I ask for a spiritual guide, the wall in the far right corner creaks, louder each time I repeat my request. I feel the presence of angels and helpers all around me, and occasionally I see their forms, or feel their warmth. If I’m lucky, there’s a short conversation between us, and I’m gifted with some simple but informative insight; if but to reassure me that they are around, waiting until that glorious day when I can experience them in their fullness. Awakening the senses, all of them, from my muladhara to my sahasrara, slowly but surely, so that I may be truly Human: a mortal with immortal powers, and most of all, a child of (and One with) God.

I can only speak from my own experience, but it seems I’ve lived many lifetimes, and some say we all live in multiple dimensions at once, so I tend to trust my instincts these days. They are pointing to a reality where humans can learn to accept their fragility while also embracing their eternality; we are indeed living in a paradox, where Oneness and Separation can exist together. Physics proves this: is it a wave, or a particle? Yes. Are we mortal, or immortal? Yes.

Attempting to accept this with the rational mind/physical brain is a futile task. Paradox cannot be understood with linear thinking. It will take an entire human body, with all of its energy channels open and strengthened, to integrate the truth of Dualism in Oneness. It takes time and effort to build these muscles of perception, and a relationship to the Divine; but these are the tools we’ve been designed with to find peace in a chaotic world. It’s worth the discipline to start believing in ourselves, to listen to our intuition, to remove toxic influences, to set wise limits, to dream big, to engage in magic, to ritualize our experiences, to surrender, and allow the universal energy field to envelop us as we fearlessly tumble through the rapids of ephemeral suffering. It’s worth letting go of unrealistic expectations of perfection, and embracing our messiness. It’s worth saying goodbye to friends who no longer align with our vision for a happy life. It’s worth grieving, letting ourselves die and become reborn along with the loss of loved ones and past experiences. It’s worth being Human, letting ourselves be completely vulnerable in a world where no one is safe and everyone is safe, all at the same damn time.

Our experience of life depends on our perspective. Will we choose, in our own minds, to believe the Universe is a supportive one? Or will we continue to propagate the lie that life is cruel, that this life is our last one so we better be good to get into heaven (or more aptly, avoid getting into hell), that we are not capable of fulfilling all of our heart’s longings? Belief is the foundation of reality. It is a courageous move to choose responsibility over victimization, but we can do it: it is our birth right, and our Divine Design. I for one am choosing this route of self-empowerment, and I can say that it is pretty fucking amazing. Life seems to live me, far better than my ego could ever imagine. I’m getting out of my own way, and beneath the mask I’ve so stubbornly worn there is a radiant goddess. Here she is, peaking through the veil, shining only a fraction of her light in this limited world. I aim to act from this place of Higher Self-ness. This can only be achieved through believing that I deserve happiness, joy, fulfillment, and enlightenment. The more I sit with Spirit in meditation and prayer; the more I take brave leaps toward my dreams based on wild, feminine instinct; the better my life becomes.

And the better your life becomes too. Humans are individuals, but we are also a collective; again, the Paradox. Any choice I make for myself affects current, past, and future generations. This applies to each of us, for we are all equal in power and strength. If we can simply remind ourselves, and one another, that we are children of the Divine, then those memories stored in our DNA will awaken, and our consciousness will expand despite us. In the beginning, this can be confusing or challenging for the ego and physical body; but trust me, on the other side of crisis is a precious gift. It is a gift of freedom, and it can be chosen by each one of us. The more of us, and the sooner, the better – don’t you agree?
